9/11 Memorial Museum
Region: New York City
Alexandra Drakakis is the Curator at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. She is a 2004 graduate of Rutgers University. Alexandra’s interest in material culture studies informed her pursuit of a MA in the Decorative Arts from the Bard Graduate Center in New York City. Her thesis research explored the American consumer and popular culture response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, eventually leading her to the 9/11 Memorial Museum in its early stages of development in 2007.
Alexandra has spoken extensively about her role in helping build the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s foundational collection of artifacts and stories at universities and international conferences. She recently gave a keynote address at Yale University’s “Reflections on the Aftermaths of War and Genocide” consortium and presented research at Kean University’s “Large-Scale Violence and Its Aftermaths” summer institute.
Alexandra sees museums as critical partners in campaigns for human rights and the prevention of atrocities. She is honored to be a part of the MANY Board and the growing network of MANY members.
