    Job Description:

    Department: Technology Collection

    **As a condition of employment, the museum requires employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which includes an mRNA booster vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna).

    Overview:

    Catalog objects in the Technology Collection of the George Eastman Museum according to staff instruction and museum standards. Support the Collection Manager in the care, organization, and preservation of the Technology Collection. Facilitate access to and provide information about the Collection to internal and external researchers.

    Responsibilities:

    1. List and describe (catalog) objects and enter information into the museum’s Collection database (TMS).

    2. Inscribe accession numbers on objects and house according to Technology Collection curator’s instructions.

    3. Organize and track the movements of all works in the care of the Technology Collection, including acquisitions, temporary loans, long-term loans, and related materials.

    4. Create and maintain records in TMS for all works in Technology Collection care.

    5. Maintain stock of and order supplies. Maintain list of common supplies used and vendors.

    6. Monitor for proper environmental conditions for the storage of materials in Technology Collection care. Compile data using hygrothermographs, dataloggers (PEM2) and eCimateNotebook.

    7. Maintain Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system in Technology Collection, including compiling data and providing information and recommendations to appropriate staff.

    8. Respond to internal and external requests for information about and access to the Collection.

    9. Schedule and supervise visits to the Technology Collection Study Center. Visitors include classes from school and university students, academic researchers, and members of the public, as well as staff, interns, students, and volunteers.

    10. Assist Technology Collection curator in presenting lectures and demonstrations about Collection materials and their care. These may occasionally fall outside of regular business hours.

    11. Assist Collection Technology Collection curator in evaluating, refining, and enhancing the George Eastman Museum Technology Collection.

    12. Collaborate with Conservation Department on the maintenance and preservation of the Collection.

    13. Assist Technology Collection curator in overseeing and implementing the care, organization, and maintenance of the Technology Collection storage areas.

    14. Offer assistance and training in the handling of Collection materials to staff, interns, students and volunteers as needed.

    15. The duties of this position may require standing, walking, sitting, lifting/carrying (40lbs), pushing/pulling (40lbs), balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching crawling, reaching, speaking, hearing, seeing, depth perception, color vision, repetitive motion.

    16. Perform additional responsibilities/projects as assigned by Technology Collection Curator.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1. Requires an Advanced degree in the history of photography, Collections management, museum studies, or a related field.

    2. Requires 1 - 2 years of related experience. Previous cataloging experience desirable.

    3. Must have knowledge of preservation protocols, history of photographs, and proper handling of Collection items.

    4. Must also have knowledge of standard Museum practices, protocols, and ethics.

    Salary range: $36,500 - $41,500 depending on experience. Full time, Exempt.
