    About the Institution: Raynham Hall Museum enables visitors of the nearly 300-year-old Townsend family home in Oyster Bay to experience what it meant to be prominent merchants and heroic patriots, and to become engaged in the worlds of espionage, domestic life, and the decorative arts.

    Job Description: Raynham Hall Museum is seeking diverse individuals with a passion for history, a flair for public speaking, and a desire to engage people of all ages. We are the only accredited historic house museum on Long Island, with an important Revolutionary War connection, a history of enslavement and freedom, and both eighteenth- and nineteenth-century interpreted rooms. Successful candidates include experienced educators, students of history, or performance artists who wish to become part of a team of guides to deliver engaging school programs and give tours to the general public. This position includes Education Center duties such as museum shop sales and admission ticketing.

    Hourly position. Hours per week will vary depending upon school tour schedule. School tours take place during the academic year from September to June, while private tours may be scheduled throughout the year. Educators lead several tours during each shift or school program. Some weekends/holidays are required.

    $17 per hour for General Public and Augmented Reality Tours (12:45 - 4:45pm, Tue-Fri; 12:45 - 5:15pm, Sat-Sun)
    $60 per program for School Tours - weekday mornings during the academy year (approximately 2.5 hours per tour)
    $60 per program for Private Tours (approximately 2.5 hours per tour)

    Required Skills and Abilities:
     Ability to learn and memorize materials and historical details.
     Ability to be heard audibly and clearly without amplification by a group of up to 25 persons.
     Ability to climb stairs in an historic house.
     Ability to operate a cash register, Smartphone-based app, digital point-of-sale system, and security alarm.
     Ability to give a tour within the time allotted.

     High school diploma or equivalent with an interest in history is required. Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills are also required.
     Prior interpretation or performance experience is preferred.
     No prior knowledge of the museum and its history is required, paid training will be provided, however, interest in Revolutionary War, African-American, and Long Island history is a plus.
