About the Institution: Clermont State Historic Site is the home of seven generations of the Livingston family including Chancellor Robert R. Livingston, a drafter of the Declaration of Independence and negotiator of the Louisiana Purchase. Today, as part of New York State’s Our Whole History Initiative we seek to tell the stories of not just the Livingstons, but the people who worked in the house and on the property both enslaved and free, indigenous people that once on the land and all the people whose stories have previously been left out of the historic narrative, in order to create of more inclusive and welcoming site.
Job Description: Candidates would be responsible for leading dialogic tours of the mansion, following a script provided by the site. The tour seeks to engage the visitor in a conversation during their tour of the mansion. Guides also serve in the Visitor Center, acting as the first point of contact to the site, selling tour tickets, and answering questions about Visitor Center exhibits. In both the house and the Visitor Center, the tour guide might be asked to do some light cleaning. Participation in special events is also required. Reliable transportation and basic computer skills are required. Previous customer service experience is a plus.
