Job Location: Albany County New York
Job Title: Graduate Fellow
Institution: New Netherland Institute
About the Institution: NNI is a non-profit organization dedicated to uncovering the Dutch history of North America
Job Description: We are looking for a graduate student to visit 10 smaller archives and repositories in Albany County (already selected by the NNI and its partners at the Albany County Historical Association and the New York State Library) to inventory documents mentioning Indigenous and enslaved people in documents from 1664-1827. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to improve their paleography skills (in Dutch and English). We expect a mix of Dutch and English documents, and staff from NNI and ACHA will be available to help with paleography and translation. The documents will be digitized by a member of the ACHA's staff. The project will require about 3 weeks of in person work at various archives in Albany County. For the remainder of the time, the ACHA or the NNI can provide office space, or the Graduate Fellow may work remotely.
