Dr. Jennifer J. Thompson Burns will present her lecture:  “Black Trojans: The Abolition Campaign of the Free Black Community in Troy, New York before 1861.

Dr. Burns is a Professor at SUNY Albany and is the University at Albany’s 2018-2019 recipient of the Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award. An award given to the best dissertation in any field in the College.

We are pleased to host this lecture that Jennifer will present about her dissertation.  She did a great deal of research using the RCHS archives. This lecture is a prequel to our exhibit on New Discoveries on Researching the Black Communities in Troy and Rensselaer County that will open for October Troy Night Out.
